Alt Moabit: 2.8 km Berlin

From the main station to the Spree: a walk through the LOFT by Covivio neighborhood

The Spree, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Wilhelminian style district, nice cafés: if you want to explore Alt Moabit, you have to be a good walker. It takes around 40 minutes to walk from number 1 at the main station to Kaiserin Augusta Allee, 2.8 kilometers in each direction. A city walk that is well worth it: the street is typical of Berlin with its good mix of neighborhood and “upcoming” scene district. And right in the middle: LOFT by Covivio. The office project with its community principle fits in well with this authentic neighborhood.

Along the Spree

The importance of the “Alt Moabit” address is evident right at the beginning of the street near the main railway station. Directly on the Spree, the Federal Agency for Real Estate is currently building a chic new office building, which will initially serve as temporary accommodation for the Federal President from 2026. Next to it is the Federal Ministry of the Interior. And in between, in a small half-timbered villa, is the “Paris Moskau” restaurant, where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch break in the sunny garden. Hip coffee shops like those in Mitte have opened opposite. Even the first few steps reveal the diversity of the neighborhood.

Kirch street

Just around the corner from LOFT by Covivio, about halfway along the route, is the undisputed most beautiful side street in Alt Moabit: Kirchstraße. Named after the St. Johanniskirche church, in whose green park a beer garden even opens in summer, it leads past the Amts gericht Tiergarten to the Spree. Typical Wilhelminian style houses characterize the pretty cityscape. Restaurants and cafés with small tables outside have moved into the stores. Moa, Coffeemamas and the “halb zwölf” canteen are the perfect place for a well-earned break for the LOFT by Covivio community and other employees from the neighboring offices.

Wilhelminian flair

Further towards Charlottenburg, the buildings are also in the typical Wilhelminian style: ornate old building facades, such as the LOFT by Covivio residential building in the first row on the street, alternate with brick commercial buildings, most of which are now used as offices. Opposite is the Kleiner Tiergarten, a green oasis in the middle of the city. A highlight here is the Bolle Festsäle, an event venue that perfectly embodies the historic charm of the neighborhood. The area is surrounded by retailers, snack bars and restaurants. This authentic mix continues along the Alt Moabit street until it meets the Spree again. Water is also typical of Berlin.
